THINKING OF A ROMANTIC GETAWAY?

Why not try Malaysia, more specifically Pangkor Laut Resort and Spa? Pangkor Laut is one of the most luxurious resorts in Malaysia, with it’s wide range of activities and facilities, Its no wonder that it has won numerous awards and is favoured by many.

My husband and I took a trip to Singapore and Malaysia a few years back and just before we returned home, decided to stay at this resort for a little R&R and to be pampered before reality hit back home.
Getting there is not the easiest thing but hey, nothing worthwhile in life is ever easy….
From Ipoh’s Sultan Azlan Shah Airport, Malaysia, the journey with a private car / taxi takes 90min to Pangkor Laut Resort’s office at Marina Island Pangkor. Followed by a speedboat transfer to Pangkor Laut Resort.
Upon arrival we were shown to our “standing elegantly on stilts over the sea and linked by wooden walkways in water” villa.

The private villa has a king bed, its airy and spacious, has a large balcony with deck chairs and a bathroom with an oversized tub that opens onto the sea.

For the most part we swam, relaxed in the sun and ate the delicious Malaysian cuisine but couldn’t resist some sight seeing and taking part in fun activities
SUNSET CRUISE

We boarded Pangkor Laut’s teakwood oriental junk and admired the setting sun. We were treated to a range of free flowing beverages and canapés as the boat sailed around the island. This is the perfect romantic setting with some of the best sunset views I’ve seen.
The Chef’s Kitchen Experience

Being total foodies, my husband and I jumped at the chance to learn some expert tips and culinary secrets from the resort’s executive chef. We became familiar with Asian spices and recipes and enjoyed a half day culinary excursion. We visited various markets and a floating fish farm. Upon our return to the resort we were treated to a bath house experience before having a lesson in South East Asian cooking.
Yoga at Spa Villa Deck

This was an amazing experience for me, not only because of the yoga that I love but also because my husband was hilarious trying out the poses. Given that he’s the least flexible person I know, he actually did well. Yoga at Pangkor Laut takes place on the Spa Villa Deck. We enjoyed the sea breeze and views whilst participating in the private session.
Chartered Luxury Cruisers
We loved our sunset cruise so much that we decided to charter a yacht for a day. Whether you have an intended destination or simply want to cruise around the waters, its completely doable. We dropped anchor wherever we wanted and snorkeled and swam in the warm clear waters. We moored at a bay and enjoyed a prepacked picnic for lunch and returned to the resort at dusk.
Virgin Rainforest trekking
I’m sure you can imagine that walking in a two million year old rainforest is something out of this world. Our walk was guided by the resort’s resident naturalist who offered interesting insights on all our discoveries and made our trip not only fun but also educational. The walk revealed fascinating insights on the rich plant and animal life that thrives beneath the ancient forest. We concluded our trip at the beautiful Emerald Bay for a swim.
Spa Village
The Spa Village has eight treatment pavilions, a deluxe Belian treatment pavilion, three ‘healing huts’, which include Chinese herbal, Ayurvedic and Malay huts, two bath houses, three spa huts, three nap gazebos and a spa boutique. Spa programs combine physical and spiritual health and well-being, and are based on one of four umbrella concepts: Rejuvenation and longevity, relaxation and stress reduction, detoxification, and romance.
They use a combination of Malay, Chinese, Indian, and Thai practices. We did quite a few treatments during our stay and they were all amazing!
Dining on a private beach
This was one amazing evening. From our villa we were escorted down a long winding road to a secluded beach with a private chef, fire bomas, a table set for 2 and champagne on ice. We enjoyed barbecued lobster among many other delicious accompaniments as we took in the coastal views.
One Island, One Resort

Perhaps the best part of Pangkor Laut is that the resort is built on its own private island. 80% of the island is a lush green rainforest. Pangkor Laut Resort is a little slice of paradise off Malaysia’s west coast that offers guests everything they could possibly need to fulfill their dream holiday.
In the romance category, this is definitely going to be a difficult trip to beat!
